Choosing a travel assembly for your excavator
A travel assembly is the travel motor plus its two-stage planetary reducer. Five models cover the machines we ship to most often, from 5 t mini excavators to 26 t class; the same series runs to the 46-52 t class, and we quote those three sizes on request. This guide states how to pick the right one and which measurements decide it.
The five models
| Model | Machine class | Displacement | Actions |
|---|---|---|---|
| FDNB08 | 5–6 t excavator | - | Model page |
| FDNB12 | 8–10 t excavator | - | Model page |
| FTD26 | 13–16 t excavator / drilling rig / crawler crane | - | Model page |
| FTD45 | 18–22 t excavator / drilling rig / crawler crane | - | Model page |
| FTD48 | 22–26 t excavator / drilling rig / crawler crane | - | Model page |
Published figures, all eight sizes
Where the FRANK catalogue publishes a figure, that is the figure we quote and the one shown here; the manufacturer sheet figure is kept only for traceability. Torque is the Speed-1 figure and speed the Speed-2 figure these two-speed travel devices run at. The 28-52 t sizes are not in the FRANK catalogue, so their row carries the manufacturer sheet figures.

Flange and outline dimensions
Unit: mm. D1 and D4 are the pitch circles, D2 and D3 the centring diameters, L1 to L4 the axial lengths. P, Pi and Pd are the main, pilot and drain ports; S1 and S2 the bolt patterns. These are the numbers that decide whether a unit bolts onto your undercarriage.

How to identify the one on your machine
Track gauge and sprocket
The mounting flange and sprocket bolt pattern differ between classes. Measure the flange bolt circle before ordering.
Undercarriage class
FDNB08 and FDNB12 are for 5-10 t, FTD26 for 13-16 t, FTD45 for 18-22 t and FTD48 for 22-26 t. Stepping up adds torque but also requires more flow.
Ratio and travel speed
Two-stage planetary ratios set travel speed and gradeability. Confirm the ratio from the old unit, not from the machine model alone.
Brake and valve
The parking brake and the counterbalance valve must suit the machine's hydraulic settings. Send the unit plate and we verify.
Before condemning the assembly
Most travel faults we are asked about are not the motor. Check, in order: track tension and undercarriage seizure, travel relief pressure on each side, the balance valve spool, brake release pressure, and case drain flow on both sides at the same oil temperature. A difference between sides matters more than an absolute number. Only then open the reducer - metal in the gear oil means the planetary set is failing and continuing to work will destroy the housing.
The full sequence is in our travel fault diagnosis guide, which you can work through with a gauge before ordering anything.
